Some of you may have noticed a few changes to the layout of the sidebar here at Mouse in My Pocket. I have condensed some things down, deleted some things, and even added something new.

All of these changes are to make it easier for you, the reader to navigate the site. So, if you don’t like the changes, or think we need to do something else, let me know.

Our first change, was to condense down the “In the Cupboard” Section. This section contains all of the different post categories. The original design for the website had many large icons with rollover affects, which may have been part of the reason for poor load testing results. When traffic increased, these appeared to work a lot more slowly. After careful consideration, we removed these, to make the website load more quickly… but the link list took up just as much room, and wasn’t even pretty… That is why we came up with the solution of small link icons (only 64×64 pixles) to link you to your favorite parts of the website.

We have also removed the twitter feed from the sidebar, but you can still follow us on twitter @olymproductions Removing the twitter feed has allowed us to add something new! There are many of you who are looking for ways to stay up to date, without having to check the website every day. Now you can! Sign up to receive our RSS feed by email. All you have to do it type in your email and hit “Subscribe” A box will pop up and ask you to type on a funny word or phrase that you see in a box. (We do want to make sure that you are people, afterall.) Once you’ve done that you will receive an email verification, asking you if you really want to receive the feed (just in case you change your mind… but I certainly hope you don’t). That’s all it takes. You never have to come back to the site, to see if there is an update. You will receive up to, but not exceeding 1 email per day which will tell you about the new posts in the past 24 hours. Yea!

Of course, we would love for you to come to the website and visit us. Especially if you have something to say. We now have threaded comments, too! This means you can not only reply to the post in general, but make a reply to a specific comment, or group of comments. Pretty awesome, huh?

If you want to email us, you can do that too… at our own personal email address for the blog: [email protected]

What ways are you making your blog more user friendly? Has it helped you attract more readers?
