This is my mother-in-law’s recipe for Chess Squares.  They are fantastic, but I don’t make them too often, since my husband is quite sure that his mom’s are better.

Ingredients:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 (8oz.) package cream cheese
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 lb. powdered sugar (about 4 cups)

Instructions:

  1. Mix together cake mix, butter and beaten egg.  Press into bottowm of 9×13 pan.
  2. In large bowl, mix together cream cheese, eggs, and powdered sugar, until smooth.
  3. Pour over mixture in pan.
  4. Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes.
  5. Let cool and cut into squares.
