I’m so excited!  I got all the shiny chevron quilt  top done!  And I love, love, love, love, love the way it looks!

I started with the interior section (the actual chevrons). The finished size of this section is approximately 40×30 inches. For this project I used the 4 HST block tutorial, I showed you in the last post about this quilt.  From each of my 6-inch block sets, I was able to get finished blocks at 3 3/8-inches square.

I surrounded the center section with a 2 1/2-inch border in some great gold fabric I purchased on ebay.  I was a little worried about it, because you never know what you’re going to get ordering online, but it ended up being even better than I thought.

While I loved how it looked with just the gold border, it was really only large enough to be a crib quilt.  And I love how this looks so I really wanted this quilt to be one I could use.  That meant making it larger.  I ended up using the fabric I’d originally planned on for the back of the quilt.  It’s the same as the background fabric for the chevrons, but in a slightly different colorway.  If I did my math right, the final size on this quilt will be approximately45.5×74-inches.  That will make a great size to wrap around me on the couch.

Just to give you an idea of the final size, here it is on our spare full size bed in the basement.  I’d say this will be a nice size to wrap up in this winter.

I’m thrilled with how it’s turned out, but I will have to find someone else to do the quilting for me.  I’m not about to attempt something this large on my home machine.  Who do you send your machine quilting projects to?

    The gold looks molten.

It does! It’s that fabric you found for my on eBay. It’s gold colored fabric with silver metallic on it. It’s a great contrast, and looks amazing in the quilt. I’m also planning to use it for the binding.

What a fun, cheerful quilt! I love the way you enlarged it.

I am thinking about building my future quilts in one to two foot squares, quilt them up myself, and then attach them all together as a last step. Pro badly would be best if they could be secured with binding so that they look like window panes. Maybe you could try that?
