I was super excited a couple weeks ago when Leila (you may know her from The Three Dresses Project) asked me to try out and make a promotional version of Lolita Pattern’s latest release, Gunmetal.  It was the first time I’d ever been asked to make a test/promotional version of a pattern, and it was the most technically challenging knit pattern I have worked with.  I am in love with how my dress came out, and how easy the pattern was to follow.  You can get your own copy of Gunmetal, out today, or sign up for the giveaway at the bottom of the page.

Now, a bit more about the pattern. This pattern is made for two-way stretch knits, making it super forgiving.  And the detailing and lace overlay add tons of interest to the piece. The pattern comes is multiple sizes, and it’s super easy to grade between sizes, which is especially nice if you’re pear shaped, like me.  I was easily able to adjust between the size I needed for my bust and waist/hips (since this is a circle skirt, you don’t really need to account for your hip measurement).  Honestly, the hardest thing about getting the pattern ready to cut out was kitty “helping” me out.

It was also great to be able to make a knit dress with this much detail.  I’ve made a couple dresses from knits, but I’d never made anything with so much detailing.  It was really fun to learn how to ruche a knit, and baste layers of stretch fabric together.  I will definitely be adding another one or two of these dresses to my collection soon.

In the mean time, here are some photos of my version, made with leopard print jersey, and a brown/teal two-way stretch lace.

Thanks so much! I really enjoyed working with the pattern. I learned a lot, and got a great dress out of it. What more could a girl ask for?

I love the top version of this!!! I think this is something that would fit my body type perfectly and I have been having trouble finding items besides a simple tunic, that would look good. Fingers crossed!
