Thanks to my wonderful husband, and the magic of the internet, we were able to order a new cable to hook to the foot pedal for my Featherweight and get everything installed.  My husband is magic with electricity, and machines of all sorts.

However, I still haven’t gotten to do any sewing with my machine. It’s horrible, I know.  My new problem is something I’m just not smart enough to know how to fix, and it’s not really in my husband’s area of expertise, at least not until he reads the manual.

When I attempt to sew, I’m getting big knots of thread balling up under the plate, and in the fabric, and the feed dogs lock up.  I took some photos and am hoping that some of you wonderful ladies in the sewing community can help me figure it out.

Seriously! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

do you have a manual? i would use it to make sure you are putting your bobbin in correctly. also, the bobbin itself has tension. if you take it out and grasp the thread tail with one hand and lightly “bob” it. they tension should make the bobbin just slide a wee bit downward. if it flies down, you need to adjust the bobbins tension

The bobbin definitely slides down. I’ll be looking at the bobbin tension.

    Andrea,

First think of your problem as a generic sewing problem instead of a Featherweight problem.

Here are two videos to view:
    (1) “How to Fix a Thread Jam.” http://www.howcast.com/videos/512590-How-to-Fix-a-Thread-Jam-Sewing-Machine.
    (2) “How to Troubleshoot Bobbin Problems.” http://www.howcast.com/videos/512589-How-to-Troubleshoot-Bobbin-Problems-Sewing-Machine.

If the tips in those two videos do not solve your problem, research similar topics in Google. I bet you will find a lot of helpful links. You could also research relevant topics at http://www.youtube.com.

    Good luck!
