This week has been slow for sewing progress, but I’m a little over halfway through the blocks for my 3rd border on the Rabbit Medallion quilt. You can see all of my progress through the second border on Monday’s post.

3rd border blocks

And I’m making a little more progress on my Easter crazy quilt. I’ve done a bit of handwork on my first block.

And I pieced a second block, adding a few of the lace and button type embellishments already.

I feel like these blocks always take forever, but then it does take longer to do handwork than to run something through a machine. Do you add handwork or embellishments to your sewing projects?

I hand-quilt all my projects so I guess you could say they are “embellished” with hand work, grin! I can’t embroider, tried to learn but I can’t get my stitches to lie even. Maybe I’ll try again someday.

Finally gave Isa her baby quilt yesterday, instead of an all-over quilting (shells, lines etc) I quilted along the shapes or lines of the prints on the fabric. There were several all-over prints and a few picture fabrics (cats, bugs, cactus or other flowers) so I quilted around the outlines of the large pictures to make them stand out. Took several months, because I had less free time this summer than I hoped to have. Isa was thrilled. I don’t know how to embed pics in our posts here so maybe I’ll email you the photo and you can post it here if you want to.

That would be great, I’d love to see it. And if you’d ever like to share any of your work online, let me know. I’m sure I can help with that. 🙂

I’d like that. I’ll be in touch.

I love your crazy quilt squares. I have always wanted to make one and even picked up a pamphlet teaching tons of stitches. I haven’t done a lot of hand work. I’m always afraid of doing too much and then ruining it. But then that is one reason I would like to do a crazy quilt…because there is no way to overdoing it.

Thanks for stopping by Allison! You should definitely give crazy quilting a try. There are no rules when it comes to crazy quilting, and lots of lovely people who can give you ideas, inspiration, tips, and help along the way. I’m a member of the Crazy Quilt Divas group on facebook. Feel free to join, look around and ask questions. I also have a group for crazy quilt photos on Flickr. You might get some ideas there as well.

Your rabbit medallion quilt is coming along beautifully, I checked back to Monday’s post too! And I love crazy quilts, I made one ages ago & my mum did all the embroidery on it for me so it’s very special too me now! L

Thanks for stopping by Linda! Hopefully I’ll have the 3rd border done for an update on Monday, but I’ve been enjoying working on the crazy quilt instead. I’m learning to love all of the parts of the crazy quilting process. The work that goes into them really does make them special. It’s so great that you have something like that from your mom.

Thanks so much LeAnna. It took a while, but the handwork part of the process is starting to be enjoyable for me.
