It has taken me forever to get around to making the 3rd border on my rabbit medallion quilt. Not that the blocks for this border were terribly difficult – they were just churn dash blocks.

But, in my defense, I did have to make 36 of them, and I was getting rather tired of making half square triangles for this quilt, so I put off working on it for a while. But I can now happily say that all of the half square triangles that I have to make for this quilt are complete. Yea!

My points and corners on the blocks aren’t perfect, but I’m very pleased with how this quilt is turning out. It’s just so fun and bright. I know I will enjoy quilting during this dreary winter.

But before I can quilt it, I have to add one more 2″ white border and then a 4″ border of 4-patch blocks. They will be easy to put together, let’s just hope that I find the time as the holidays cat take over my life.

Do you ever have projects that take way longer than you think they should?

My things always take ages but I’ve learnt to live with it. Your quilt is a lot of fun – it will be lovely when it’s done.

    • Andrea on December 3, 2014 at 10:14 am

      Thanks Kaja!

Your quilt is just beautiful! The summery brights, the fun piecing, gorgeous centre medallion – I’ll be following along to watch it get finished! I’m so glad I stopped by – your quilt has left me smiling!

    • Andrea on December 3, 2014 at 11:42 am

Thank you Andrea! I have one more border to piece, then I have to decide what I will do for the backing and how I want to quilt it. That will be fun.

ALL my projects take longer than I think they will. This is beautiful, so bright and cheery, so the wait will be worth it!

    • Andrea on December 3, 2014 at 11:42 am

Thank you Mari. I’m enjoying working on it, but that break I took threw a kink in my plans of 1 border a week.

i think your defense line works – that’s a lot of churn dash blocks! and it can get tiring working on the same shape over and over. at least for me. mixing up projects and letting some rest is good for the creative juices. now that your border is done, it looks great!

    • Andrea on December 3, 2014 at 3:18 pm

Thank you! I still need to add a 2″ white border and then the final border which will be 4-patch blocks, but at least I’m done with HSTs for this quilt.

Oh this is so cute. Obviously cat thinks so as well, a cat of good taste.

How did your quilt do in that competition?

    • Andrea on December 3, 2014 at 3:17 pm

Thank you Julie. I didn’t win anything in the content, but that’s ok. There were a lot of great quilts, and I was just happy to be able to share mine with everyone.

      • Julie on December 3, 2014 at 3:20 pm

Ahh, I’m really surprised at that, it’s gorgeous.

        • Andrea on December 3, 2014 at 9:12 pm

          Thank you Julie!

I like this! Very bright, cheerful, and full of polka dots. The stars are my favorite border, but then I have a thing for stars. 😉

    • Andrea on December 3, 2014 at 3:19 pm

Thank you Rachel! I really like the stars too. I think it’s because of the 16-patch centers. Those blocks are full of bright fun fabric.

Most of my projects take too long, mostly because I’m a hand quilter. I used to piece by hand too, now that I have a machine I can trust, that part goes faster, but they still seem to take forever. Mind you, that’s good for me, as my resources are limited; I guess you could say the fun lasts longer this way. I have a Storm at Sea quilt half-pieced, ran out of muslin for the plain pieces and just can’t seem to go get the fabric I need…too busy doing other things.

    • Andrea on December 4, 2014 at 11:19 am

That’s a good way to look at it. My problem might just be too many projects at one time. I do have at least 6 quilts in progress right now.

      • anna in spain on December 5, 2014 at 6:26 am

Oh, that’s probably it. I know myself so well, I try not to start more than 2 projects, so I can trade off if I need a break from one. If I had a bunch of UFO’s lying around I would get so overwhelmed nothing would ever get finished. My mother and sister were both like that–they’d get frustrated or distracted an stuff the current UFO behind the couch. Then when they felt “crafty” again, they’d start yet another project. Never did see anything finished.

        • Andrea on December 6, 2014 at 11:34 am

Well, I do try to at least go back to stuff. Right now, I really need to get a few things finished though. The UFO pile really is feeling a bit overwhelming, even if some of the UFOs are just ones I need to save $ up to send to the long arm quilter.

This quilt top is so pretty! Love the bright colours and fun blocks you chose. Those bunnies are just too cute!

    • Andrea on December 4, 2014 at 3:05 pm

      Thanks so much Lorna!

  9. Ashley B on December 5, 2014 at 2:48 pm

Such a fun top! Love all the different borders! I may have to make myself make one of these one day!

    • Andrea on December 5, 2014 at 8:22 pm

Thank you! It was very fun to design. You’re welcome to use the layout if you like.

This is just sweet, no two ways about it. And as for projects taking longer than I think – all. the. time. But it’s not a race, so that’s okay.

    • Andrea on December 6, 2014 at 11:31 am

Thanks, Marie, I’ll keep that in mind. #NotARace

  11. Renee on December 6, 2014 at 8:29 am

Those blocks look great on your quilt! Love that some have fussy cut centers. Most of my projects feel like they take way longer than they should…but I think that is just par for the course with small kids.

    • Andrea on December 6, 2014 at 11:31 am

Thanks Renee! I wish I had a good excuse like that. I just generally have days where I don’t feel like doing any quilting. I think that makes me lazy.

  12. Terri Ann on December 6, 2014 at 5:27 pm

Imperfect points give a quilt character. At least that’s what I tell myself. This is a really wonderful medallion quilt. I really like the borders you chose, keeps the design whimsical like the prints you’ve chosen!

    • Andrea on December 6, 2014 at 6:03 pm

Thank you so much! I have one more border to go. It will be a simple 4-patch block. Hopefully I will get a chance to get started on it soon.

Beautiful quilt and a churndash is one of my favourites! My projects often seem to take longer than they should but then the often change along the way! Thanks for linking up your #scraptastictuesday project!

    • Andrea on December 9, 2014 at 9:22 pm

      Thank you so much Nicky.

  14. Alycia Quiltygirl on December 9, 2014 at 9:26 pm

All of my projects take longer that I think lol – I love yours though. It is quite pretty!

    • Andrea on December 9, 2014 at 9:47 pm

I’m glad it’s not just me. And thank you for the compliment.

  15. Lynne on December 10, 2014 at 4:39 am

Thanks so much for stopping by Lynne. I’m glad you like it. I’ve got one more border to go, which I should really get started on soon, but it’s been too cold and damp for me in my basement lately. (I’m really good at excuses for laziness.) 🙂
