I’m a big fan of surrounding myself with things that make me happy. At the office my walls are covered with art prints and reproduction comic book covers. The bright colors are a necessary break from staring at code all day.
While at home, I surround myself with things I find a bit more calming. Those things tend to be vintage and antique pieces, old books, and handmade quilts. While the quilts are usually the only decorative touches that are made by me, I make sure to surround myself with pieces I love. That might be some handmade pottery by a local artist, or a vintage camera, but they are always pieces that mean something to me.
