I finished up the first of the Focus Through the Prism challenges today.  The block to incorporate this month was the Churn Dash, sometimes called the Monkey Wrench.

My version of the quilt, “Schrodinger’s Cat,” features an offset block inside block design, with embroidered kitten, and hand quilting.  Fabrics used in this quilt are Cherrywood Fabric in Indigo from the ROYGBIV set for the Focus Though the Prism challenges, Northcott Artisan Spirit Shimmer fabric in Blue Lagoon, and Washi Tape fabrics by Rashida Cole Hale.

The cat embroidery inside the smallest churn dash is from Wild Olive’s hexagon pattern embroidery design. The quilt is hand quilted with orange embroidery floss.

Perfect in the offset design and then up close you see that unexpected kitty and you can’t help but smile.

Thanks so much Carla! The cat makes me super happy too.

I’ve never seen a churn dash within a churn dash; its like churn-ception! Lol. I love the little embroidered kitty, so sweet. And clever name for the quilt!

I love the layout, fun hand quilting, and also your two tone binding 🙂

Thanks so much Tara. This was a great project to put together. I’m hoping that I’ll be just as inspired for the next challenge.

Very nice mini quilt. Along with being a really interesting monkey wrench layout, I especially like that you used multiple colors in the binding and used orange to quilt with. I love unexpected touches like those (and the cat, of course)!

Thanks so much Beth! I had a lot of fun doing this project. Would you believe that 2-tone binding was on accident, because I ran out of the yellow? I love how it turned out though. Sometimes even mistakes can make things better.

Love the assymetrical lay-out and the nested churn dashes! Lovely finish. Thanks for linking up with TGIFF!

Thanks Jenn! I wish I could be starting on the next challenge, but I still have 1/2 a month before it’s announced.

I really like this design. The background fabric gives it pizzaz and the binding is really great.

Thanks Rochelle! I wish I had more of the washi fabrics to use in the backgrounds of the other quilts in this series, but I’m running very low. I’m hoping to snag some of the new ones from Cotton + Steel when they ship.
