Do you like to write reviews when you finish a book?

Book_ItI love writing reviews about the things I’ve read.  It’s a great way to tell more people that they should be reading the book too.  That’s the biggest reason, besides holding myself to my reading challenge, that I started my Book It posts this year.  They allow me to write several short reviews as I finish books and share them all in one big post at the end of the month.

I’m also enjoying being a book reviewer for Netgalley.  It gives me the opportunity to read some books before they’re available to the general public. And who doesn’t love the idea of being able to read a book without worrying about spoilers?

Yes, I do enjoy writing reviews on GoodReads, under my nom de plume (hee hee) orinoco womble. I sometimes find that writing a review helps me think about what I’ve read, and why I liked or didn’t like it. Sometimes I look at reviews before reading a book I’m not sure about, while other times a reviewer can merrily post what I would consider a spoiler without marking it as such.

But the worst “spoilers” are Prefaces, Introductions, and Forewords, particularly when written by a modern author for the reissue of an older book. Just because something is a “classic” doesn’t mean we’ve all read it!! And yet they will tell you the whole thing, plot, denouement and all, and never turn a hair. I have learned to leave all the “front matter” until I’ve read it for myself.

Very good points. I generally only read forwards when they are written by the author. Surely the author knows what will and will not spoil a book.
