What was your Goodreads challenge or reading goal for this year?

This year I had 2 reading goals. The 1st, my Goodreads challenge was originally to read 12 books, one per month.

I set my goal super small because I’d just gotten into reading again and wasn’t sure how many books I would have time to read throughout the year.  I ended up surpassing that goal easily, so I upgraded my goal to 24 books.  Then I upgraded to 36 and finally 48 books.

My other challenge this year was my Book It challenge, which I have been blogging about each month, as I try to expand my reading horizons by reading books that meet the 2015 Reading List from PopSugar.  I have loved doing this challenge, because it forced me to look outside my normal reading criteria. I discovered a few new authors I really like, and that I really enjoy reading memoirs.

Actually my challenge is to read less–because it will mean I’m sleeping better! LOL I’d like to read more serious type books, both fiction and non, and not quite so many kids’ books or lite detective/noir stuff. But when you’ve been up for almost 24 hrs you go for the easy stuff, anything to keep your mind off putting your own eye out with a wooden spoon.

Sleep is definitely important. I miss it every time I have to get out of bed. 😉

One of my challenges that I’ve been doing a lot lately is, instead of reading books (both fiction and non) “about” a country (written by authors who depend on research or a few months or years residency as a foriegner), looking for books written by nationals–such as China, Japan, India, or anywhere else. Nothing wrong with “epic fiction” written by outsiders but I also know there are many voices coming from China and other countries that have been unable to speak before and now can be heard.

If you’re interested you can find my reviews on Goodreads under the name orinoco womble.
