htDvENPWhat is you favorite genre?

My favorite genre will always be sci-fi/fantasy.  I love being able to escape my ordinary life and go on dangerous and crazy adventures from the comfort of my favorite chair.  We’ve all had that moment when we’ve wanted to leave the shire, but just like Samwise Gamgee, we know it will always be home. So, why not make our own journey through Middle-Earth a little safer by taking our trip through the pages of a book?

Well, given my reviews on GR, it’s obvious that I’m all about mystery novels, many of the golden age of the 1920s and 30s, but others as well. I do like memoirs but unfortunately I find few contemporary memoirs worth reading! Not just because they are often exercises in blame assignment and pleas for affection, but because of extremely poor editing.

Just lately for evening reading I’ve been trawling Gutenberg in search of boarding school stories. Guess what, many were written in the twenties and thirties! I do wish the Honeybunch novels were available in the public domain for download. We had one when I was a kid (inherited, I think, from my mother’s childhood books) where she and her family go to Bermuda on a ship. How I wish I could read it again.

I looked these up, and they don’t even appear to be Kindle editions of the Honey Bunch books. Often times, older books like this available for free on Kindle, so it was rather surprising. In the mean time, maybe some L. Frank Baum?

    Maybe!
