I’m officially at Week 19 of my pregnancy.  That means that little Spot is almost 6-inches long (the length of a US dollar), and at 8.5 ounces is a little over half a pound.  I think I’ve even gained about a pound myself.  I’m pretending that it isn’t from all of the popcorn I’ve been eating.  I’m still tired/sleeping more than I would have expected this far into my 2nd trimester, but then I was always tired before I got pregnant too.

Though I’m still not showing, I’ve even gained about a pound myself.  I’m pretending that it isn’t from all of the popcorn I’ve been eating.  I’m still sleeping more than I would have expected this far into my 2nd trimester, but then I was always tired before I got pregnant too. I’m having a bit of pain in my back and hips, but that seems to be expected as all of the muscles start to adjust. Either way, I’ve got an appointment with my chiropractor soon. He’ll get me all lined out, at least for a while.

My biggest problem has been heartburn. Everyone tells me that heartburn means Spot will have hair, so at this point, I’m expecting ZZ Top or the princess from Tangled.  It doesn’t happen very often but when it does, it feels like I have an atomic fireball wedged in my chest.  Now, I have a medical condition that makes this less than surprising. The valve (or sphincter) between my esophagus and stomach doesn’t close, which allows both food and acid from my stomach to come back into my esophagus. Not fun.  This is generally taken care of with a prescription for a Protein Pump Inhibitor (PPI).  Unfortunately, I’m currently taking the maximum dose twice a day, and still getting awful heartburn that 3 Ultra-Strength Tums (or 3000 mg of Sodium-Carbonate) doesn’t always solve.  Needless to say, I’ll be discussing that with my doctor at the next OB appointment.

And speaking of OB appointments, the next one is the big anatomy scan!  That’s the one where the doctors check to make sure everything is going OK with baby’s growth. And, assuming that Spot cooperates, we will also find out if Spot is a boy or a girl.  That appointment is next Friday, so you have one week to place bets on whether it will be a boy or a girl.
