Yesterday was my first day back in the office.  It went surprisingly well.

Milli managed not to fuss too much, and we got her to the sitter and me to the office with 10 minutes to spare.  I can only hope that things will continue to go so smoothly. The only problem I really had was how quiet things were in the office.  Even though I had quite a bit to do, having been gone for the last 12 weeks, it was definitely noticeable that the students are gone for the summer.  I will be glad when grad students get back on campus in the next few weeks. In the mean time, I will keep myself busy catching up with making updates to the website.

What have you been up to lately.

At my university we always had a lot going on in the summer. Intensive classes, Continuing Education workshops, short courses for kids from Mexico to come and study/practice English (and for Spanish majors to be Mom or Dad to the kids) sports camp…it never stopped.

I’ve been saying goodbye to my regular term-time students and helping a couple of kids prep for their exams on the 17th. No idea what July and August hold for me beyond slapping a bit of paint around the apartment.

We will have grad students back on campus in a couple of weeks, but it’s not the same as having all the young people out and about. It’s just a different sort of atmosphere.
