A few years ago, the big thing to do instead of setting a New Years Resolution was to choose a “Word of the Year.”  Unlike a resolution, which was a specific goal that you (or at least most of us) weren’t going to keep, a Word of the Year is a single word to focus and reflect on, to guide you as you move into the new year.

My Word(s)

This year I had a difficult time deciding what my word would be, but I did finally narrow it down to 2 words: “authentic” and “enough”.

Authentic
  1. not false or copied; genuine; real
  2. representing one’s true nature or beliefs; true to oneself or to the person identified
Enough
  1. adequate for the want or need; sufficient for the purpose or to satisfy a desire
  2. fully or quite

The Goal

Basically, my goal this year is to be who I am. I’m that 30-something lady that has lunch with the college kids.  You know, the weird one in the dress with cats all over it.  And, as unique and crazy as that may be, I also want to remind myself that that person is always enough.

My word for the year is Pause. I want to pause before I answer, commit, act upon a situation to determine if my reaction will have a negative impact on me (or on others). I want to pause to remember the goodness in my life as things are so ever changing.
