Spiced Spritz with Browned Butter Glaze

Ingredients

Cookies

  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/4 cups flour

Glaze

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

Cookies

  1. Heat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Place butter in large bowl and beat at medium speed for about 30 seconds.
  3. Add sugar, pie spice, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Continue beating, scraping the bowl occasionally, until well mixed.
  5. Add egg and vanilla, beating well.
  6. Add flour and beat until well mixed.
  7. Place dough in press and press cookies onto cookies sheets, 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake 5-8 minutes. Edges of cookies should be set, but not browned.
  9. Remove to wire rack and cool completely.

Glaze

  1. Once cookies are cool, melt butter for glaze in heavy saucepan over medium heat. Continue cooking, stirring constantly and watching closely until butter just starts to turn golden (3-5 minutes).
  2. Immediately remove butter from heat and cool slightly.
  3. Combine browned butter and powdered sugar in medium bowl. Add vanilla and enough milk for desired glaze consistency.
  4. Drizzle over cooled cookies.
