So late last night it became official that Barack Obama would remain the President of the United States. But this post isn’t about the election, the candidates, or even the issues. It’s simply about the hatred that I have seen from friends on both sides of the aisle.
For the last month, I have seen an ever increasing number of posts and status updates about politics in all of my social media feeds. That’s to be expected. It is a Presidential election year, after all. However, what I didn’t expect was the ridiculous amount of partisan bickering that occurred.
I went to bed last night hoping to wake up this morning to a Facebook/Twitter feed that showed everyone was just happy to get rid of political ads. Instead, all I have seen is smugness and public shaming from Democrats, and tasteless offensive comments from the supporters of the Republican party.
Things that frustrated me:
Give it up… This country will never come together with that moron “leading” it… Just get more deadbeats on government help…. More welfare citizens having babies so they can get more money from the government, and unemployment numbers will one again rise to an all time high… We are going to hell in a hand basket….
If you didn’t vote today, I will punch your face if you complain about the gov’t to me. That is all.
This election reminds me of when everyone cheers when the emperor takes over in star wars … So this is how democracy dies… with thunderous applause… -senator padme
Indiana do you know what you have done? Mike Pence as our governor? You thought Mitch Daniels was bad….YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT PENCE WILL DO ! …
I hope it’s Hillary v Condoleezza four years from now. That’d be cool. Also Republicans’d have to tuck their racism back in their pants.
Things that made me happy:
So my 9 year old nephews opinion on the election-“You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit!” Very true buddy! Sure love that boy!
Of course I voted. Did you?
I’m exercising my right to remain silent about the election this morning because I’m sure everyone is as tired as I am of hearing about it. However, I’m exercising my right of free speech and I’m telling everyone that my daughter is so freaking cute! 🙂 Have a great day everyone!
I feel like I should be tweeting more amusing quips tonight, but honestly guys, I’m just glad it’s over. Goodnight! #Election2012
My Point:
I know that you have political beliefs. I have them too. I, however, don’t wish to cram them down your throat. What I do want is for everyone to realize that no matter who is in office, we can make a difference ourselves. But it starts with us stopping the partisan bickering and making compromises.
I think Red Green put it best when he said, “So remember, I’m pullin’ for ya. We’re all in this together.”
