I’m going to try something a little new. I love to cook, so I thought… why not host a link party for people to post their recipes as well? It sounds like a plan to me. Of course, this is the first one, so we’ll see how it goes. You have from today (October 16th, 2010) until next Friday to post your recipe.
So, the idea of ready set recipe is to try something new…. So, for my very first Ready… Set… Recipe! I am making a marshmallow fondant. I’ve never made fondant before, but I love using it on cakes… it just looks so much prettier than my icing job.
Ingredients:
- 1 – 10.5 oz. package of mini marshmallows
- 2 T water
- 1 bag powdered sugar
- 1 t vanilla extract (optional)
- food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare flat work surface, by sprinkling 1 cup powdered sugar on your surface.
- Put mini marshmallows in a microwave safe bowl with water.
- Microwave on high at 1 minute intervals until the marshmallows are puffy.
- Stir until smooth.
- Add 2 cups powdered sugar.
- Mix with spoon. (Use hands to kneed in powdered sugar if needed)
- Move from bowl to prepared work surface. Cover hands with powdered sugar and kneed fondant, until it is no longer sticky. You may add more powdered sugar as nescessary. Try not to use too much powdered sugar, or your fondant will become tough.
- If you would like to flavor or color your fondant, do so at this point, by making a well in the center of your fondant, and folding over. Continue to kneed until the streaks are gone. (Approx. 1 t vanilla extract is appropriate for this much fondant, but you can use other flavors)
- Either roll out your fondant to use, or place it in plastic wrap and put in the fridge. It will stay good up to 3 weeks.
