This week, Thoughtful Thursday is brought to you by Anthony Rapp. For those of you who don’t know who he is, he played Mark Cohen in the original Broadway cast of Rent, and in the 2005 movie. He’s had roles in several movies, the first of which was Adventures in Babysitting, back in ’87.
This Thoughtful Thursday isn’t about Rapp’s movie career, tho. It’s about he career as a singer/songwriter. Rapp’s music is great. At least, I think so. One of my favorite songs is called “Living Alive.” You’ll find it’s lyrics below.
I know you think no one knows you, but you don’t know
You think you’ve got nowhere to go, your not alone
I know they just won’t let you be, they push and pray
Don’t run awayYou can’t be anyone else, you’ve got to be yourself
You can do so much more than surviveThere’s something your so afraid of, you refuse to see
If you caught a glimpse of what your made of, you would be free
I know you knowYou can’t be anyone else, you’ve got to be yourself
You can do so much more than survive, try living aliveYou can’t be anyone else, you’ve got to be yourself
You can’t be anyone else, you’ve got to be yourself
There’s only one you for all time, trying living alive
Alive, Alive
There isn’t a video for Living Alive, but there is one for “Out Damn Spot,” another song about being who you are.
If you ever get a chance, you should listen to some of his other music too.
