Each year I attend a couple of conferences with my husband. We go up to Indianapolis in December for the Indiana Farm Bureau Conference and then again in January for the Indiana Farm Bureau Young Farmers Conference. I do enjoy going to these. It’s a nice change of pace, and I enjoy spending a little time in the city.
Now, the Farm Bureau Conferences are interesting, but topics like – “Relating to Local Government: Understanding the Role and Appointment Process for Local Boards and Commissions” and “Avoiding Bad Connections: Farm Truck Accidents and Liability” probably won’t help me write a better blog post, unless I’m writing one about that specific topic. Too bad that’s not my market, huh?
So, I’ve been thinking about the possibility of going to a conference related to the things I enjoy doing and blogging about. There are several coming up that I think I might want to attend.
- Blissdom 2012 – A conference for female bloggers – February 23- 25 at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN.
- SNAP! 2012– A conference for female bloggers/crafters – April 19-21 at Thanksgiving Point, Utah. (I’d have to miss my hubby’s birthday for this one.)
- SIGGRAPH 2012 – The Association of Computing Machinery Special Interest Group in Graphics annual conference – August 5-9 in Los Angeles, CA.
Several issues:
- Getting time off work
- Finding someone to cover my course lectures (PHP anyone?)
- $$$ (cost)
I’m pretty darn sure that I’m not going to be able to save up enough money to attend the February conference, the April conference is on my Matt’s birthday (not that he would mind) and the August conference is in LA – I just don’t think I want to go by myself to LA.

I could look for some sort of Conference in Phoenix and crash with my cousin, Susan. But then, I hear it’s a bad idea to couch surf during a conference, I might need a room to take stuff back to throughout the day.
What I should really do is find something local and test the waters…. anyone know of anything remotely near Evansville, IN? I’m5 hrs from Chicago and Ft. Wayne; 3.5 hrs from Indianapolis, St. Louis and Lafayette; 3 hrs from Bloomington and Nashville; and 2.5 hrs from Louisville.
Oh dear. Conferences are a wonderful way to connect with others. We would sure love to have you at SNAP!, but missing a birthday that is a dilemma…
Let us know if there is anything we can do to help you with your decision!
