Sara over at Sew Sweetness recently posted a some great clothes that she made for spring quilt market and I was absolutely in love with the peplum tops she made. So I decided to give it a go myself.
For my top, I used the bodice of the Colette Patterns truffle dress as a base. The size I had cut out previously was too big, as I’ve recently lost some weight, so I had a little fun with this pattern making adjustments.
I got the back exactly how I want it, but will probably make a few more adjustments to the font before everything is said and done. It’s a bit baggier than I would like with such a nice crisp fabric.
For this top, I basically made the bodice of the dress and added a waist band and short circle skirt. I was able to do this with a yard and a half of 60″ fabric with plenty left over.
Has anyone ever inspired you to give something new a try?
Very nice! I love this one….I was inspired to make some awesome tote bags from old bird sees sacks. My friend made me one out of a chicken feed sack. It is SO COOL!
Woo! I’d love to see it.
Love the top and fabric, but I agree, it looks a bit baggy on. I HATE sewing as my mom and I spent way too much time fighting while doing it during my 10 years of sewing in 4-H. I’ll stick to my embroidery and watch you sew fun things 😉
I gave up sewing in 4-H after about year 5. I’m glad to get back to it now, without all the rules. I think the bagginess at the top is simply because of the material I used. In my other version, it lays much better. I’ve got an idea how to adjust this top. If it works, I’ll be sure to post photos.
