Ok, so I normally try not to show off my sewing projects until they’re completed, but I just had to show you the progress on my final Summer of No Pants sewing project entry. This project is brought to you by a Vintage Vogue pattern and a bed sheet.
After quite a bit of seam ripping, I have a working version of the dress. I’m not sure if this vintage pattern was a little harder to follow than the last, or if it’s just because I’m too lazy to mark my fabric and properly read directions. It’s probably the latter.
My current version of the dress doesn’t have sleeves. I’m not sure if I should leave the sleeves off, or give them a try. Really, that will come down to whether or not I have enough fabric. The hem line is already funky from working from a full sized sheet. I imagine if I’d had a king, or even a queen the pieces would have fit much better.
As it is, even with the hem being shorter in places than the original pattern it’s still quite long on me, so I may be able to get some sleeve pieces out of the fabric, just by taking up the hem. What do you think?
It’s looking lovely so far! You should definitely blame the pattern directions for any problems you encounter though. Even when I read them thoroughly I still have no idea what I’m meant to do!
I have lots of patterns that I never have this trouble with, but for some reason, this one is not as clearly written as the last Vintage Vogue pattern I used. You might try something from Colette Patterns. I find this super simple to follow.
