I recently made a trip to the thrift store looking for some new to me skirts and dresses for the Summer of No Pants. I managed to find myself a denim skirt, a beautiful red Egyptian wool pencil skirt, and a cute hounds tooth dress that fit me perfectly, but I also came across several pieces I thought had a lot of potential.
Of course, I completely forgot to take a photo of the skirt with potential before I redid it, so I found this similar skirt on eBay to share with you. It’s also a Herman Geist brand skirt.
The skirt fit me really well at the waist, but the length was awful on me. That meant some hemming. I hated to cut the original hem off the skirt. It was a beautifully executed hand-stitched blind hem. It had to be done though. I cut about 8 inches off the bottom of the skirt and did a simple rolled hem.
I then took the fabric I cut off, divided it into two strips and attached them into one long piece before sewing it into a tube. I decided to use the tube as a sash belt, which I attached at the hip.
