I feel like we’ve just gotten relaxed all of the craziness of the holiday season, and it’s suddenly Easter this weekend. I am super happy that for Easter this year we are keeping things low key and staying in town.
We still have multiple places to go, but at least since everyone is in town we’ll get to spend a bit more time with everyone this year instead of wasting half of the day in the car. Not that I mind going out of town to see family, it’s just much easier to see everyone when they’re all in one place.
What are your plans for the Easter holiday? Will you be traveling, or staying at home?
We’re staying at home. Where I live (Sevilla) there are processions all week, and Thursday and Friday all the shops are shut. Then on Sunday, they do nothing–which seems a bit backwards to me, but there it is. I like to do a good spring-clean in the runup to Easter, so today I scrubbed down kitchen walls (tile) and cabinets.
To me, Resurrection Sunday is the most important day of the year, so I tend to greet friends at church with the words, “Happy New Year!” In point of fact back until the 18th century it was New Year’s Day in many places of the world. If you read Pepys’ Diary, he mentions that in Holland they counted the New Year from Easter Sunday. He travelled there in the 1660’s and dated his diary entries accordingly.
