Attack of the Bluejays
A couple nights ago, I went out to pick limbs up out of the yard between storms. It seemed like a great idea until I started to get dive bombed by bluejays. We must have several nests in our trees.
This was more than a little annoying, but I am happy to report that I didn’t die, even if I failed at good camera footage. And Geordie, our outdoor cat, made up for the attacked by tackling and killing one of the bluejays and bringing it to me as a gift a bit later.
Fantastic Beasts
In the world of Harry Potter, there are new rumors floating around that someone has discovered the names of the Ilvermorny School Houses – names left out for those who don’t want spoilers, but you can find them in the link. I’m not sure how I feel about this on a couple of fronts.
- Why can’t people wait for anything? Is it so hard to be surprised by something?
- These (unlisted) house names are all part of Native American mythology. And because I’m not part of the Native American culture, I’m not sure how I feel about the appropriation. There was a big dust up a month or so ago when Rowling released some stories of wizards set in America, because they didn’t handle issues of Native American culture well. So I can only see this as a problem that will cause my favorite fandom to burn.
