I’m the type of crafter who needs to see what my project will look like before I get started, so I often spend a lot of time in the planning stage mapping out what my projects will look like before I get started.
But of course, that can’t always be the case. There are times I get started on something and realize that it just won’t work the way I thought it would, or I’ll see something I missed in planning and the project will go in a completely different direction.
When you work on projects do you make up your mind about what it will be before you start or does your project develop over time?
I usually follow a pre-made pattern (at least the motif); the crazy quilt is the first one I’ve made that’s just totally random. Even my scrap quilts have been laid out at some point to insure I don’t get too much of one colour or shade in an area. Then I pin numbered squares on the motifs so I remember which one goes where. I just have to remember that the “grid” is L-R, T-B. DH has a good eye for colour so sometimes he helps.
I never was good at that, no matter how much I try. I like patterns, but I’m often not patient enough to follow them for quilts. I like to try shortcuts.
