The big project theme this week has been cleaning things up. When I started my sewing area was such a mess that I couldn’t even see my sewing machines. They’re visible now, but I’m still not done with the cleaning.
I’ve also been doing a bit of re-arranging in the living room making a home for my letterpress art piece on my shelves. It’s more crowded than I would like, but at least it’s up off the floor.
And not that it’s in any way sewing related, but I got inspired to make some handmade jewelry over the weekend.
What are you working on this week?

Get out of my head!! I’ve been doing some organizing, cleaning and sorting too. We have two very inconvenient pillars in the bedroom (don’t even ask, Spanish architecture of the 1970s was just…weird) so we had a carpinter come and make two shelf units to fit, with doors to keep the dust out. Gave me a lot of space for little things, like medicines/first aid stuff, toiletries, etc. And by freeing up the space I had that stuff in, it led to a general clear-out and switch-round. It reminded me of that crazy thing we used to do on roadtrips, where the driver would stop the car and yell, “Chinese fire drill!” and everyone would get out and switch places. Today is a local holiday and I seem to have spent it working pretty hard!!
I think I could use some of that motivation. I haven’t felt much like working too hard on my spaces, which is why they aren’t done yet. I do have quite a few items that need to go to the local thrift store though. I’m sure that someone will appreciate them.
Looks great, I’d love a rummage in your sewing space! I need to clear space to baste!
I have so much stuff it’s ridiculous. There are items I purchased new (especially with the fabrics) but a lot of the items have come from yard sales and as gifts from friends who don’t sew when they were going thru their parents/grandparents things. Apparently I’m the person that people think of when they need to get rid of those items, and boy do I appreciate it.
Sometimes you just need to tidy in order to concentrate on the sewing… and not just in springtime! 🙂
I suppose it does have to be done. Cleaning has just never been my favorite.
But think how much freer you feel when it’s all straightened out! A friend of mine used to say “The devil loves clutter”–her theory was that a cluttered space leads to cluttered thinking, and so to cluttered relationships. I do know I find tidying the clutter to be rather overwhelming, unless I have lost my temper!! Then I use it as an outlet and go through the apartment like a dose of salts.
Being mad is about the only reason I usually want to clean. This time it’s because we brought in extra furniture in the sewing space, and I threw things in a pile to make room for it. When will I learn?
I find it hard to get motivated for cleaning. But if it’s hampering my sewing space…. That’s all the motivation I need. Good for you getting ‘er done, Andrea! It looks great!
Thanks Lorna! There’s still a lot to do, but it will get there, and in the mean time I was able to get a couple of blocks stitched together last night.
