I Scream for Ice Cream!

For those of you that don’t know, my hubby and I gave up Ice Cream for Lent. This should be a simple thing. It’s not like I gave up all desserts, just Ice Cream. What I failed to realize, is that because Easter is so late this year, I am not going to get to have cake and ice cream for my birthday this Friday.
So… my question becomes this – is Sherbert ice cream? I’ve already been informed by my hubby that milk shakes are ice cream, because it has ice cream in it. But, since there is no milk in Sherbert (or sorbet) is it technically an ice cream?
There are SO many flavors of sherbert…
So really… does anybody know? Is sorbet ice cream?
I can’t answer your question and some of it depends on how technical you really want to be, but I know when we give up desserts for Lent, the one day I do eat them is on my birthday, which doesn’t always fall during Lent either. I’ve always wondered why we couldn’t eat meat, but could have things like eggs and milk…
I’m pretty sure that it’s because of the fact that the disciples were fishermen, and making us not eat meat, but allowing fish would increase sales of fish.
