I liked my Bombshell Bustier Top so much that I decided to make another one.
This project started out as another top, but when playing with my fabric, I decided I really wanted to give this project a try as a dress, so I cut off the top to closer to my natural waist line and added a skirt to the bottom using my meringue skirt pattern. For the dress I used tucks in the fabric instead of darts, as it made it easier to match the seams.
I also added a permanent wide set halter strap to the dress, which helps hold the dress up with the added weight of the skirt.
I love how this dress came out, and that it has such a different look from the original top I made. Have you ever remade a pattern? What pattern do you use all the time? How do you adjust the pattern for different looks?
This is very cute! I like the prints that you mixed together. It’s rare that I make a pattern more than once (I get bored to easily). I do sometime, but it’s often months and months later. Usually when I spend time making my own pattern, I’ll use it a few times.
Thanks for stopping by! I meant to ask you the other day – what pattern did you use to make your mushroom dress?
Great fit! I have patterns I remake and tweak for the kids, but I don’t have a favorite for me.
I recommend that you give the meringue skirt a try. It’s from the Colette Patters Sewing Handbook. I’ve made several versions of this skirt, including the bottom of this dress. I highly recommend it.
This is my favorite dress that you’ve sewn so far! I love the mixed prints and the dress fits so well.
Thanks O! This is a big step up for me. I’ve never made so many alterations to a pattern before.
