Butterfly Circle Skirt

I am having so much fun with Summer of No Pants 2013! It’s been a great push for me to make some great basic pieces that I can mix and match with the rest of my wardrobe. My third project for the challenge is a circle skirt. Circle skirts really are simple, I just need to remember to cut a smaller radius for the waist than I think I need. It always ends up hanging at my hips, even when I measure much higher on my waist. Oh well, that’s what waistbands and fabric tucks are for.
Overall, I’m super thrilled with how this turned out. I especially love how the red binding tape looks at the hemline. It adds a fun bit of contrast, and enough weight to this lighter shirt-weight fabric to keep it from flying everywhere.
The fabric for this skirt is Alexander Henry Como in multi, a lovely cotton lawn. The print also comes in Tea and Gray, which are much less bright, if you aren’t a brights person.
I used a great red bias tape I picked up at Let’s Sew, my local fabric store. The tape is that is a strange sort of woven stretch cotton. It was super easy to work with, and added a bit of texture to the project.
Of course the best part of any circle skirt is spinning in it.

Thanks! I actually use a wireless remote for my camera, so I can take my own photos. My husband farms, so he’s not home until after dark, and I can’t take photos then.
