Things That Make Me Unhappy

I love to complain, but there aren’t many things in life that make me truly unhappy.  Unfortunately, I discovered a new one last night.  It is not OK to be woken from a dead sleep at 2:30 in the morning by the fire alarm when nothing is actually on fire. I have a hard enough time getting to sleep and staying asleep without that stupid alarm going off.

Of course, my first thought was “Oh no! The Christmas tree is on fire.” It was not. Nothing was on fire, nothing was even smoking.  Needless to say, my husband wasn’t happy about it either.  He did finally get the alarm to stop. He had to not only take the battery out, but completely remove it from the wall.

fire alarm missing

Apparently our fire alarm was wired into something in the wall. We have never had problems with the alarm before, so we didn’t know it had this. Have you ever seen this type of set up for an alarm? Any ideas on how to fix it? I hate to not have a working fire alarm in the house, especially with the Christmas tree here.

    Hi,

yes actually I have seen this, I have them, they’re supposed to be hard wired – however, I’ve also have had one go off without there being a fire – (thank God)

I was told that it was probably a spider or similar – somehow one can set the alarm off.

If this is a fact, I can’t say, it’s just what i was told by the Maintenance people at my apartment, once upon a time.

Thanks for the info! This makes me feel better about it. Maybe the hubs will be able to get everything hooked back up properly tonight.

    You’re welcome.

I forgot to mention that they ‘beep’ when the batteries are low or the power goes off … you’re right, you don’t want to “NOT” have them :/

Thanks! Unfortunately this wasn’t the little chirp it makes when the battery dies…. this was a full on alarm. Matt is working on a solution now.
