This is the pie dough recipe I use.  I find that it is much flakier if you are willing to use real lard instead of Crisco.  You can purchase lard in buckets and sticks at most large groceries.  Don’t be concerned if you use your own lard and it has a bacony smell, this bakes out.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups lard or crisco
  • 1 T sugar
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 T vinegar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup water

Directions

Put egg in a 1 cup measure and finish filling with cold water. Use mixer to mix the ingredients, adding flour last. Will make a soft but firm dough. Best when chilled before use.
