I’m so happy! I got the pieced backing done for my Communique quilt. That means that I got to put away all of my left over fabric from that color palette and work with something completely different for a while.

Finished Flimsys:

That gives me a total of 4 quilts with tops and backs ready for quilting. Those are the Communique quilt, Double Exposure quilt, String Theory quilt, and Impromptu quilt. I should probably get on that soon, or send them to someone who will.

Quilt Tops in Progress:

As far as tops in progress go, I feel like I’m finally making a little headway with my Christmas crazy quilt. I’ve worked on it at lunch a couple days this week, and have spent some time in the evening working on it while catching up on my favorite summer shows. Of course, it’s still not getting done as quickly as I would like. That”s one thing I may never get used to dealing with for hand work.

I also took my Halloween fabric out and started on a fun Halloween themed quilt top. My original plan for another triangle quilt just wasn’t working with my panel print, so I have no idea what it’s going to be yet.  I should really do some sketching, but I’m also having a bit of fun with the idea of building the quilt as I go.

Project Plans:

I’ve already got several groups of fabric that are waiting to become quilts. They include a great geisha panel that I want to hand embellish for a wall quilt,

geisha-panel

some fabrics my sister gave me for my birthday which might become a double wedding ring (but I’m not sure just yet),

fabric bundles

lots of Christmas fabric left overs that need to be turned into something (maybe Dresden plates),

christmas fabrics

and lots of other stash fabrics for any inspiration that may strike. And that doesn’t even include the fashion fabrics that are waiting for me to feel like tackling some clothing projects again.

What are you planning on making next?

I love that geisha panel and I’m sure it will make a lovely wall hanging. I am searching high and low for some fabric I bought around February, this apartment is not that big! Three pieces: tomatoes, garlic and kale (because they didn’t have any green peppers or cucumbers!) Where do you suppose it went? Originally thought of it as a tablecloth of course, but if I ever find it again I have the feeling it’ll end up as a non-batted bedcover, just stitching the top to the lining to give it “the look.”

Either way, I’m sure it will be fabulous… but first to find it. Check with your towels. I occasionally accidentally put my fabric up with the towels and bed sheets.

Very nice! I see you have made some progress, will you quilt them yourself?

I’m planning to send most of them out. The larger quilt will be difficult for me to do myself on my home machine, and there are a couple of the small ones that I think would look amazing with FMQ.

Oh, wow! You have so many fun projects going on! I should really get started thinking about the holidays too. I just know they’re going to sneak up on me! Good luck with your projects!

That’s why I’m still working on my Christmas quilt now…. You really shouldn’t start a quilt with a bunch of handwork the month before you want to use it.

I really like the top one. It’s a quilt right up my alley and looks like it will be a comfy one.

Thanks Marsha! I certainly hope it will be comfy.

Your finished quilt tops are looking great, Andrea. And I do look forward to seeing you get some quilting done. I know it is not your favourite part, but I always love to see your finished quilts! In answer to your closing question…. I don’t know, but I better get an answer soon. It has been too long since I sat down at my sewing machine!

Part of what I’m waiting on for quilting is the I want a few of these quilted to be FMQ and I can’t do that myself, so I’m waiting on my husband to give me the go ahead to send them off to the quilter. He’s a big fan of keeping a certain amount of $ always in savings in case something happens, so I have to balance my expensive quilting habit with his savings habit. As far as new projects go, I think you should do a scrap quilt. I’m sure you could come up with a great project to use up some of your scraps!
