Bookish Questions – A Bookish Job?

A book/writing related job that you would love to do?
When I was little, I always thought it would be fun to be a librarian, but then I discovered that they don’t just get to sit in the library and read all day. It was real work, and those librarians don’t get to read all day. And I could never be a reviewer for a living. I don’t think I’m discerning enough about the things I like and dislike, nor am I good enough with words.
So instead, if I could choose any job related to books, I think I would like to work as a graphic artist, creating covers for special edition books. The fancy ones, like the Barnes and Noble Collectible Editions or Orion’s Gollancz Imprints of the Discworld Novels.
If you could have any job in the publishing industry, what would you pick?

I’d love to be a proofreader/editor person, particularly for fiction, but I’d hate to get stuck with bodice rippers or “dark, gritty” crime! I too wanted to be a librarian, and there were assistants in my hometown library who just checked books in and out, shelved returns, and did stuff like dusting and showing people where things were. I don’t know who you had to know to be considered for a job like that, but I wasn’t in the running, I know that. (My best highschool friend worked there, so I know it wasn’t about wealth!) Then I discovered that to be a real librarian, you had to have a degree in library science. Which was as much of a comedown as discovering what “linguistics” means by taking a few classes in it (and no, it’s not etymology!). It might be more fun now, post-Chomsky. I hope so. My current students don’t know who Chomsky is/was, and when I was in college, he was definitely on Olympus.
I also always said I’d be a writer. Well, that didn’t happen, either.
I enjoy reviewing books on GR; writing a review often helps me analyze my reaction to a book. My best friend now wants me to start a YT channel reviewing books but a) I’m not sure the books that interest me would interest others (I don’t read bestsellers and all that) and 2) I’m not so much “technologically challenged” as “tecnodisabled”!! And I don’t know of anyone with the time and patience to teach me editing etc.
Thinking about this the other day…I’d love to be paid for recording audio books. That, I would love. I used to do it for free, for blind students, when I was in college.
That would be a fantastic book job, especially because you would get to read things before they get released.
