Seriously, why make the bed? You’re just going to get back in it in a few hours. Now, I do occasionally make the bed- but that’s only when I change the sheets. I just don’t see the point otherwise. The mess the sheets are in when I get up in the morning is exactly how I’m going to want them when I go back to bed- and I’m so glad that my husband agrees.
I know it doesn’t take long to make the bed, but why make it when I can use those extra two minutes to sleep instead?
Do you make your bed everyday? If so, why?
I only make the bed when I change the sheets too. And I usually wash/dry and out the same set right back on so I don’t have to deal with folding them!!
I will occasionally ‘straighten’ them in between times if they are really messed up or hanging completely off one side.
My mom makes the beds within two minutes of them being vacated! Eek!
Straitening the bed is OK. That’s something even I have to do from time to time. 😉
I do make the bed, though I will say American beds are easier to manage than Spanish beds. My mother was a total sloven and I’d be ashamed to tell you the lack of frequency with which she changed bed linen, let alone made beds. I’m not terribly good at it, but a pretty quilt covers a multitude of sins! I smooth it up and don’t worry about hospital corners etc. Before we had air conditioning in the apartment ( we’ve only had it for about 8 years) I was a real clean-sheet freak in summer because it gets so hot here. I used to change the sheets at least twice a week in the summertime. Now that we have AC, once a week is enough for me.
A couple of years ago we finally exchanged our old bedframe for one of those wooden bed-heads that’s attached to the wall, and put the matress on one of those bases that lifts up to reveal a storage box the size of the matress underneath. It’s soooo much easier to tuck in blankets etc when there’s no “foot of the bed” sticking up!
However, I don’t iron bedsheets. Or towels. Spanish women my age do, and I simply don’t have time, since I have this little thing called a life. I asked DH years ago if he cared that I didn’t iron the sheets and he said “Why? We’re asleep anyway.” Gotta love him!
Scuse the double post.
No problem! I’ve never ironed a sheet in my life. Well… a couple of them, but in my defense I was using them in sewing projects at the time. I’m also lucky that my husband feels the same way about making the bed. 🙂
