Spot has been cooking for 32 weeks now. We’ve hit the 8-month mark! And thank goodness. I am super ready to be done with the pregnancy part, even if being responsible for another human for the rest of my life seems more than a bit daunting.
I had my 3-hour glucose test last Friday, along with testing for some other issues I’ve been having associated with the pregnancy. I am happy to report that I did pass the glucose test.
Unfortunately, I didn’t do so well with the other bloodwork. My thyroid level wasn’t where they wanted it, so we have doubled my dosage of thyroid medication from 25 to 50 mcg/day. Since we’re talking micrograms, it’s not a big change, but it’s still one more frustration in this last trimester.
And, we now have an answer for the itching I’ve been doing with. I have something called “cholestasis of pregnancy.” In layman’s terms, this means that the pregnancy hormones in my system have caused my liver and gall bladder to stop removing toxins from my body like they should. Those toxins are now leaking into my bloodstream, which is what causes the itching. It’s not dangerous to me- only annoying, however, it is pretty dangerous for Spot.
I’ve been prescribed something called Ursodiol, which is a synthetic bile to help my body remove the toxins. That should relieve the itching in a few days, but it won’t do much for Spot, who now has an increased chance of stillbirth. Because of this, we will be doing bi-weekly checkups to make sure that Spot is moving around like she should, and will also plan to deliver early, sometime around 37 weeks.
Wow! Congratulations 🙂
Thank you so much! I just need to to get back in the sewing room and finish her quilt before she arrives.
