Eyelash Curler?

Yes. At least when I really and truly do my makeup.  Most days, I'm a lipstick only kind of gal.

Favorite Nail Shade?

I never wear nail polish because it won't stay on my nails.  They are weird and polish just peels off of them, but I'm a big fan of the traditional french manicure.  It looks clean and goes with everything.

Favorite Lipstick Shade?

Urban Decay's Vice Lipstick Comfort Matte in Criminal.  It's pink, which I generally don't love, but on me it's basically a neutral.

If I want a little color in my life, I wear Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Comfort Matte in Rock Steady or Bad Blood.  They are fantastic reds with the blue undertone that I need.  Other go-to colors are Tampered and 1993, both in the Comfort Matte.

Blow Dry or Air Dry?

Blow Dry. I have super short hair, so it only takes a couple minutes and it keeps my hair from flipping 30 different directions.

Artificial Nails?

Like nail polish, I can't keep artificial nails on, so I generally skip them.  Though for special occasions, like my wedding I get them done (in a french manicure), so that I don't have to worry about having icky stuff under my nails showing up in photos.

Foundation?

When I'm really doing my makeup – usually to go out somewhere, I do use foundation. I really like Urban Decay's Naked Skin Liquid Foundation.

Hair Up or Down?

When it's long, I like to wear my hair up.  But I've solved that problem by cutting all of my hair off into a pixie cut.

Bar Soap or Body Wash?

I'm all about the Body Wash.  What I use tends to change depending on my mood when I'm at the store.  My skin has been super dry lately, so I've been actually been using Mil's Aveeno Baby Wash.

Bath or Shower?

I'm a bath person. I want to soak in a nice warm tub with a good book and a moisturizing bath bomb.

Favorite Body Lotion?

During my pregnancy, I discovered Bert's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter, which I use everywhere in the winter.   My other go-to lotion is Shea Moisture Body Lotion with Frankincense and Myrrh. It smells amazing, and I find the scent calming, which is good for this anxious girl.

Perfume? Favorite Scent?

I love perfume.  I even have a small collection of miniture perfume bottles, but my favorite scent is Jean Paul Gaultier's Classic Eau de Parfume.

Top notes of Rose, Mandarin, Star Anise and Pear Liqueur are alluring and give it a strong feminine edge. Orchid, Plum, Iris, Ylang Ylang and Orange Blossom provide sophistication and softness to the heart. The dry down is sensual with notes of creamy vanilla blending with woody musk and amber in the end.

Shave Every Day?

I shave when people will see my legs, which means pretty much every day during the summer, but I can got a week or two between shaves during the winter.

Favorite Lip Balm?

I don't use lip balm often, but when I do I tend to grab for Bert's Bees Lip Balm.  It comes in a variety of flavors and types. I generally use the honey lip balm, or the tinted balm in Rose.

When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I don't really remember when I started wearing makeup. It was probably sometime in middle school, tho I certainly didn't do it much until I got to high school.  I spent 4 years in show choir, so I learned to do makeup that included a bright red lip (which I still love) and purple eye shadow.

That's me (in the heart) in my painted up glory during senior year of high school with the other ladies from Innovations.

I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup until I was sixteen, and was never really taught to apply it. I wore some for special occasions until I was in my 30s, when I got tired of gunge on my face. Also have recurring lichenform excema which doesn’t take kindly to foundation and stuff. It’s getting better, but I’m not going to defy it, I can tell you!

As for nails, I tried painting them but when I do that it feels like the ends of my fingers don’t belong to me. I love to cook, and I’m not sure about nail polish consistently around food. Porcelain nails? surely you jest. Try quilting with those puppies! Not that I ever have, but I have my idea.

Hair, short. In a Louise Brooks 1925 bob. I don’t even dye it any more since everybody around me from 14 to 80+ does (and since they’ve linked it to breast cancer). The last couple of dye jobs I got were most unsatisfactory, so I’ve decided to accept my age and my grey hair. Actually, now it’s growing out it’s quite attractive. I blow dry it in winter but it’s so hot here from about May that I just let it air dry mostly. The bob is meant to be like a close-fitting cap, and air-drying helps. For conditioner, when it needs it, I use the old egg and olive oil masque, massaged into unwashed hair and wrapped in plastic wrap for 30 min, and then washed out in tepid water. (Which will also take care of lice if that’s ever an issue, but let the plastic/oil mixture stay on for an hour).

I much prefer natural soaps (Castile or Marseilles type) than gels, since here in Europe many liquid products now contain preservatives that irritate my skin: methylisothiazolinone and its buddy butylmethylisothiazolinone and plain old isothiazolinone are the worst. I read labels! For a long time I was using Lush solid shampoo bars but now we’re finding a few shampoos, gels and fabric softeners (perfumes) without the Dreaded Three. DH gave me some very nice all-natural scented bar soap from Italy for Christmas and the first bar is still going strong in spite of daily use for washing hands, and I’m like Lady McBeth about washing my hands.

I love baths, but when we redid the bathroom we got a shower because we’re neither of us getting any younger. I miss the tub, but DH is all hunched over due to undiagnosed/untreated scoliosis (and being 72) and there is no way I want him to fall in the tub.

Body lotion: Anything with argan oil in it. Love the smell, love the way it makes my skin feel. I love Ro’s Argan from Lush but this year haven’t been able to afford it.

Perfume: Lush’s “Lust.” No question. It has the right balance of rose, jasmine, sandalwood and patchouli. I don’t wear it often but it’s my favourite. I dream of buying Guerlain’s “Jicky” or something from Floris of London (thank you Phryne Fisher)but have you seen those prices? A hundred Euros for 30 ml??? If I could I’d buy Lancome’s “O de Orangerie”.

Shave every day? No. I live in pants most of the year, and long skirts in summer. I do shave when it gets warm but certainly not every day.

Lip balm: Love natural cocoa butter, and have never found anything to improve on it.

For soap, you might try Something from Bert’s Bees, if it’s available there. Their products are almost all all-natural. They have a great buttermilk soap that’s actually in their line for babies.

I just saw that Urban Decay was having a sale on their lipsticks. I think it was at Ulta or Sephora. You might want to check that out. I don’t like shaving my legs either, but I do it more in the summer because I don’t want to be that hairy person, ha.

Bert’s Bees is one of my favorite product lines as well. I have a couple of the tinted lip balms in the glove box of my truck.

I’d never been a fan of the red lip on myself until my sister convinced me to try one from the dollar store of all places. It’s absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, there was only one and I keep misplacing it. LOL
