I’m happy to say that in the last week, I’ve been rather prolific in creating quilt blocks, at least for me.  I’ve completed 3 more 12-inch crazy quilt blocks, and have am partially finished with another.

The best part about this project, besides all of the fun shapes and colors, has been using up some of my many, many scraps.  I’ve got fabric scraps that are from old projects, discontinued home decor books at the local hardware store and even some vintage fabric that came from my grama’s house.  It’s been really nice to have a use for some of the pieces that I didn’t know what else to do with.  After all, there is only so much I can do with a 5-6in square of curtain fabric, or 1.5in strips of fabric left over from the last project.

I’ve taken the blocks that are finished and done a bit of embelishing on a couple of them.  Nothing too exciting, just making use of some of the cool old accent pieces I had from grama’s house, like the red lace ribbon I used on this block–

–and the decorative lace detailing on this block.

I have also been enjoying the fact that I am getting to use some of the old-fashioned image blocks, like the baking illustration in the first block, and the deer in this one.

I’m working on one now, that has a cat and a goldfish on it.

Anyone have any ideas for what I should do with the blocks?  I’m not sure if I want to sew them directly to one another, or if I should have some sort of border between the blocks.

I suppose it depends on how big you want your quilt and how many blocks you feel like making?

I guess I’ll make blocks until I get bored.

The embroidery you plan on doing shouldn’t be that hard. Consistency is the majority of it.

I hope so…. started a small test embroidery dog…. he’s pretty cute, and I’ve got a decent back stitch — if I can keep all of the stitches the same length.
