Sewing Circles

After telling everyone on the blog on Friday to stop being afraid to try things and just do them, I figured I should take my own advice. So I pulled a quilt from my stack to send off to the quilter and decided to give it a go myself.
This quilt was a challenge on many fronts, starting with it being my first attempt at sewing curves on a quilt. I’m really pleased with how it turned out, even if it isn’t perfect.
The finished quilt top was larger than anything I had quilted on my home machine before, which made me a bit nervous. The last thing I wanted to do was get a perfectly nice quilt all bunched up in the machine and mess everything up. The nice thing about this quilt was the the large circular design on the front lent itself well to picking out a quilting pattern. I just thought – “Hey! Why not follow the circles?”. So that’s what I did.
I did have quite a bit of help on this project from the cat.
I think that actually ended up being the most difficult part of the project.
So, would I do more of these mid-sized quilts on my home machine? Yes, if it was a design I felt comfortable executing with my standard sewing machine. But, I will definitely be sending quilting that need fancy stitch work out still.

Thanks so much Valerie. It was a learning experience to make this one. It was the first quilt I did with curves, and I certainly learned a lot.
