I have started two new sew along projects this week.  I’m so excited!  I’m hoping the projects will kick me into gear and get me sewing even with all the late sunshine outside.

The first is the Impromptu Quilt Along at Monkey Do.  The quilt is a pattern by Rachel Griffith Design that will finish about 90×90, making it large enough for the bed.  I’m pretty excited about that.  It’s also a great project to use that Comma layer cake I’ve been trying to decide what to do with for months.  For the background, I’m using a painted canvas print from Laura Gunn’s Magnolia Lane line for Michael Miller.  It brings out the bits of periwinkle in the prints, without clashing with the greys.

The project just started on the 1st of the month, so I don’t have too much done yet, but I did manage to get the layer cake cut up and start on cutting the background fabric.

The second sew along is one I just learned about over the weekend, and I can’t help but participate!  It’s called “The Summer of No Pants“.  So what is this Summer of No Pants?  It’s a challenge to make 4 skirts or dresses over the next 4 weeks (before the official beginning of summer) and then to not wear pants for the whole of summer!

The Summer of No Pants! on Hideous! Dreadful! Stinky!

I think I’ll be able to mostly do that, but fair may be a bit of a problem.  I’m not sure I should wear a skirt standing on top of a dozer blade up in the air to take photos of the demo derby… especially if it happens to be windy.  Maybe I’ll do leggings with it. Would that break the rules?

Even if it is, I really am excited about this challenge.  I have a great vintage yellow floral bed sheet that is begging to be a simple summer dress, and I’ve already made a wearable muslin for my pencil skirt.  I used some vintage fabric from my stash that I just didn’t know what to do with.  I think you’ll love it as much as I do.

Are you doing either of these sew alongs?
