Thanks to Lorna over at Sew Fresh Quilts, I’ve discovered the Triangle Quilt Along over at The Sassy Quilter.
And, as you may remember from my Quilting Bucket List, I’ve been wanting to make a triangle quilt for a while now. And I feel like this might just be the perfect opportunity to make one. Plus there are prizes! Who doesn’t love prizes?
The pattern for the QAL is a simple equilateral triangle pattern (that’s 60°). The finished quilt should measure 49.5×65″ (which is a nice throw sized quilt) and look something like this.
Though I am planning to make the quilt a little larger, as I have found that anything less than 2 yards in length is too short for throws at my house. That means my quilt will end up with 14 rows of 18 triangles (that’s 9 right side up and 9 upside down).
For this first week of the QAL, we need to pick out 13 different fabrics in 1/3 yard cuts. I’m don’t have many 1/3 yard cuts and I’ll need more to make a larger quilt, but with all the fabric in my stash, I’m still sure I can make it work. Here’s what I’ve pulled so far:
Obviously for this project, the focal fabric will be my Gastlies print, with accents of pink to coordinate with the pink in the print. The rest of my fabrics are simple prints and solids blending from almost black to ivory and creams.
I’m also hoping to be able to have triangles of multiple sizes, hopefully fussy cutting some 6″ and 12″ triangles in my Gastlies print. Now to map out my plan.
Oh, I am in love with these ghastlies! I bought some to use as a quilt backing. My sister hates these, but something about them is just so cute to me:)
I LOVE Edward Gorey illustrations. It would be my favorite thing ever if they would come out with a panel print from the “Gashleycrumb Tinies” book or his “Alphabet Book”.
Nice fabric choice.
