Rabbit Medallion Quilt – 2nd Border

Last week I showed you what I did for the center and 1st border of my Rabbit Medallion Quilt.
This week I want to share with you what I did for my second border – the stars with 16-patch centers.
The center section of these 8-inch stars are 16-patch blocks from 1.5″ squares, giving me a finished 4″ 16-patch block. These were simple to make by strip piecing the white background fabric to my colored fabric, cutting those strips into 1.5″ sections and chain piecing them together.
Once the centers for the stars were done, I made 2.5″ Half-Square Triangles for the star points. I got the math for the HSTs at Generations Quilt Patterns – that site really is full of good quilt math. They were added around the outside to get all these lovely stars.
Once all the star blocks were completed, they were sewn into strips and added to the quilt, just like any other border.
Really, it has been a lot of fun, though I am starting to hate half square triangles. There are an awful lot of them in this quilt. Is there a block that you’ve made so much you just don’t want to think about it any more?

LOL, I dislike HST’s also. It’s a bit better since I got a Bloc Loc ruler for HST’s. If you haven’t tried one, you really should. It make trimming those buggers up much easier. I’m loving your quilt. I may do something like this with some of my panels. I’ll be watching to see how it comes out. Have fun with it. cdahlgren at live dot com
