I recently picked up small bits of yardage from Amy Butler’s Alchemy line and Parson Grey’s Curious Nature line.  For those of you who don’t know, they are married, so I thought it would be fun to do something to mesh their lines together.

I chose to go with warm shades from the Amy Butler fabrics –

And cool shades of blue grey for my Parson Grey fabrics:

I also picked out a few Kona cotton solids. to go with them.  I’m really looking forward to finding a great project for them.

My first thought is to make a mini version of the vortex quilt – something like half size.

I found a tutorial that looks like it would be pretty easy to follow, and with a little quilt math, I think I can make a smaller version.

Quilt math: start with original block size, subtract .5 inches, divide by 2, add .5 inches, you have your new block size.

Do you think it will look good with my fabric combinations?  Or do you have another pattern you think would look fantastic?
