Andrea Nelson Art

I discovered a great artist a while back named Andrea Nelson.  She does lots of bright colorful animal illustrations.  But more recently, she's started sharing some great process art projects to do with kids.

Mil and I are loving making these projects together.  And, I'm enjoying seeing how different our projects look side by side.

We've spent quite a few evenings doing these fun painting projects since the weather turned cold.  Mil loves mixing her colors together and using as much paint as possible, tho she doesn't always have as much patience as I would like.

We've been painting more than paper at the house over the last few weeks as well.  We used some of our empty toilet paper rolls to make little puppets inspired by Suzy Ultman.

I made a brown bear in a Christmas sweater, while Mil went all out in her use of color.  She got so crazy she painted over her cat's face, but it was easy to add it back with a sharpie when everything dried.

Toilet Paper Characters

The other thing we've been painting lately are Christmas ornaments.  I'd never intended for us to paint any, but Mil got a little liberal when cleaning off a watercolor brush and got watercolor on the hand print ornament from her 1st Christmas.  Instead of being overly upset about it, I decided that the best solution was to paint the whole thing, and now us painting it together when she was 4 will be part of the story.

For anyone that is interested, the clay ornaments that are made from a combination of cornstarch and baking soda take watercolor well after they are dry, and acrylic also looks good on them.  It worked so well, that we decorated a couple of the new ornaments that we made this year.

What memories are your making with your family this holiday season?

Good to see you posting again! I was afraid we’d lost you to bigger things.
DH is now 76 and I’m nearly 60 and we are all the family we have, so in the current situation we are making quiet memories. Christmas will mean Mass for me, and quiet movies and books shared for both of us. This year’s menu will be roast duck with roast potatoes for both and salad for me. My best friend gifted me with some very nice wines from her late husband’s collection; I get to find out what 10 year old champagne tastes like.
I wish you and your family a happy and healthy holiday season and new year. May we see the end of the pandemic this year.

So glad to hear from you! No bigger things, just VERY busy at home and the office. Raising a kid is a LOT of work. So glad you and your husband are surviving the pandemic. It’s been a rough couple of years.

Also, when I log in from the back end of the server, apparently it doesn’t look like replies come from me! Oops!
