As I told you all in my last post, I have decided to make myself a quilt.  The inspiration for the quilt I wanted to make, was a cute mini quilt from the Purl Bee.

After some thought, I’ve come up with a plan to incorporate the idea of circles in a design that’s a little more funky and a lot more me.

Of course, since this is a computer rendition, I’m sure that I will be using different fabrics than I have in the sample design.  Basically, I’m going to quilt some more standard designs and then cut them into circles, and applique the whole thing onto a 108×120-inch quilt backing.

And, yes, this is going to be a major undertaking.  I’m expecting to be working on this for at least a year.  Expecially considering that I’ll be hand quilting and I have never quilted anything before.

The individual circluar designs break down as follows:

79-inch circle

60-inch Circle – uses 12-inch blocks with 6-inch insets.

48-inch Circle – uses a scrappy pattern called “Urban Baby.”

46-inch Circle – uses alternating 1-inch stripes.

In the diagram, the blue circles are 21-inches across, red circles are 14-inches in diameter and yellow circles are 7-inches.
