With the Polar Vortex heading south, things are going to get pretty chilly here this week. And with the cold weather, I start thinking about layering clothes. Particularly what jackets and coats will work well with my clothes.

Having a good work coat in my closet is always important to me. The first nice coat I ever bought myself was a white Jessica Simpson coat. While the specific coat I purchased is no longer available, you can get one in a similar style on Amazon.

Last year’s coat from Pink Martini had a little more character. I picked it up at a local shop, but Modcloth also carried it, and will surely have some similarly awesome coats this winter.

I’d love to pick up another nice new coat for this winter, but I can’t decide what type or style of coat I would most like to have. I should probably go with something darker this year, in a brown or black. Maybe something classic like a black trench, or a chocolate brown pea coat.

Of course, I don’t always wear super heavy coats. I have a nice selection of moto jackets in various colors, and I love to layer with blazers. They always manage to class things up, and I don’t look like a crazy person wearing a coat all day if I’m still cold in the office.

For example, it’s a bit out of my price range (come on clearance sale), but I’m in love with this blazer style cape from BCBG Maxazria. It totally reminds me of a tuxedo jacket and would 20 kinds of perfect for all those holiday parties that one inevitably gets invited to.

And who doesn’t love a little vintage style in their wardrobe? I’m absolutely in love with this vintage inspired blazer from Vobaga. It has fabulous accents like that great herringbone check print, faux leather elbow patches and collar, along with the great polka dot for the rolled sleeves.

But what every closet really needs for the fall and winter is a great boyfriend blazer. I love this one by J. Thompson. It comes in a wide range of colors, from basic black to bright coral and green.

Those are a few of the things have in my closet, or would love to add this winter. I would love to know, what are you favorite styles for fighting the cold?
