I feel like I never have time to get any sewing done since Milli showed up.  I’m certainly home just as much as I was before she was born, and Milli doesn’t require a lot right now, but she seems to want to be held constantly in the evenings, to the point that I can’t even make dinner without having to listen to her fuss and cry because she isn’t being held. And that obviously makes sewing impossible.

But I have come up with a solution of sorts.  I went home on my lunch break earlier this week and took that time to get the fabric cut for the remaining blocks for Milli’s baby quilt.  It might not seem like I got much accomplished, but it took me almost 45 minutes to get all of the fabric cut for those 5 star blocks. You can see the finished ones here.

This also means that when I get a chance to piece those blocks together, I’ll be able to do some chain piecing, which will really speed up the process.

What have you been working on lately?

I had all these plans for working on my quilts this month. Not a stitch have I sewn, not even to catch the seam in the seat of my summer trousers that’s letting go. We had a four-day weekend last Sat-Tues so of course I’ve been in bed with a feverish cold. Which is not “better” yet but is not as bad as it was. I went out this morning because I did feel better, and hadn’t been outside our small apartment since Sunday lunchtime. Came home, had a fierce headache, took my temperature–a lowgrade fever. Ugh. I’m not “ill”, I’m just not very well.

I know that feeling. Mildred is bringing all the germs home with her from the sitter.

I remember this stage of parenting. It will get a bit easier as you learn hacks to keeping them satisfied while still being able to do things that you want to do.

Unfortunately, the only thing that seems to satisfy her right now is for someone to hold her. I shouldn’t complain though. I’m sure I’ll miss it one day.
