Progress

It feels like it’s taking forever, but I’m slowly making progress expanding my throw sized Communique quilt top into a king sized version that I can really get some use out of. The original quilt was designed to be 54×72″, while the new version will measure 102×96″.
I have already completed the top and bottom additions and added them to the quilt top, making the largest section of the quilt currently 54×96″. I took photos of this step inside, and while I did manage to get the quilt spread out on my living room floor, I know I won’t be able to get the finished quilt top spread out in this space.
And what is with my cat? It’s not even done and she’s already decided that she owns it.
But regardless of ownership, I have made quite a bit more progress in the last week. I’ve put in a good 12 hours on the quilt this week and have two rather large sections for the sides going in the basement.
Maybe, if I’m lucky, I’ll finish this top before the end of the summer. What is the biggest quilt you ever made? How long did it take you to finish it?

My longest quilting project was the first fullsized quilt I made, on the Storm at Sea pattern. Hand-cut, hand-sewn, hand-quilted…and not in any sense squared up. All four sides had slightly different measurements. But my friend claimed to love it anyway. It took me over 2 and a half years, on and off. My largest in size was a large-double-bed Economy quilt. I made 2 of those, one with batting, and one merely stitched in-the-ditch to a lining to make a bedspread with the quilted look.
My friend who’s having a baby told me Quite Definitely not to use pale colours and “sweet” prints for her quilt so I am going mad with novelty prints from my collection and experimenting with an idea taken from this website: http://thecraftymummy.com/2012/10/i-spy-quilt-tutorial/
I’ve cut all the base blocks, and need to cut them into triangles and then see how we go with the mix-and-match. I have a preponderance of blues and greens in my collection–so wouldn’t you know, she’s expecting a little girl! LOL I dislike sashing with posts…I’ll have to find a way around that, or learn more, I guess. Having said that, maybe since I got a decent sewing machine it won’t be so difficult.
Wow! That sounds like a lot of work. And I’m sure that whatever you come up with for your friend will be wonderful.
I really like your quilt! I am not admitting as to how long they take me… I will make everyone look fast lol
I don’t think it matters how long they take you. The finish is great, but best part is the making.
