Today I am sharing the very first post from Guest Blogger, Anna. I’m so excited to share some of her work with you.
Isa’s baby quilt was inspired by one of Andrea’s HST quilts.
Isa knew the baby was a girl but she didn’t want pink “girly” things. As she is an organic agronomy consultant, I chose scraps from my stash that speak of ecology: fish, plants, animals, bugs–even some old scraps of “One World” fabric.
All the nice fabrics I have were gifted to me by online friends about 10 years ago. Unfortunately that forum no longer exists, but I have made some beautiful things from fabrics that are unavailable in Spain. I mixed and matched the half-square triangles, and added 6 picture squares using the bigger animal prints in a diagonal stripe.
For this quilt, I hand quilted around the big motifs it giving the quilt a bas-relief effect. This was intensified by the synthetic batting that I used. It was rather a bear to work with, but I am happy with the result as it’s slightly thicker and much puffier than cotton or wool would be.

Anna, I just want to tell you how adorable this quilt is. I love that this quilt doesn’t use the traditional “girly” pink colors. And those quilted hearts are super sweet! What fabric did you back the quilt in?
Sorry to be so slow replying, friends, we’ve both been sick in bed with a gastric virus but are slowly climbing back.
I backed this quilt with a simple print of yellow flowers on a white background, happened to have a piece just big enough so it didn’t need to be pieced. I quilted around the prints that allowed it, and quilted in the hearts on the small prints, because every baby should be surrounded by love from the beginning.
Its gorgeous and will be so soft and interesting for that little baby!
Lovely! And just perfect for a baby — so many fun things to see and explore! Thanks for linking up to TGIFF!
Love the non-traditional fabrics; I do that too and people love it. Would that more would give it a shot, we might become a little bit less avant garde !~! You did a fabulous job with every aspect of the project. Congrats on a super piece.
